Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped Cheat Codes & Secrets

Complete collection of cheat codes, passwords, unlockables, and hidden secrets for Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped (1998).

Warp Rooms & Level Navigation

Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped organizes its 30 main stages (plus 5 boss arenas) across five themed Warp Rooms. A sixth secret Warp Room becomes accessible after collecting enough Gems and Crystals, housing the game’s two hidden stages. There is no level-select button code — progression is gated by collection thresholds and boss defeats.

Secret Levels

Two hidden stages exist entirely outside the standard warp room listing. Neither appears on any in-game map until first discovered.

Eggipus Rex

Access method — Dino Might! (Warp Room 4): A pterodactyl periodically swoops down to grab Crash during the level. Players normally kill it or dodge it. Instead, let the pterodactyl pick Crash up and carry him off the right edge of the screen — do not die before this point. The screen fades and drops you into Eggipus Rex, a prehistoric bonus level with Triceratops riding sections and dense crate stacks.

  • This is the only entry point — there is no warp room portal.
  • Eggipus Rex contains its own clear gem, required for 100% completion.
  • The boundary exit was unintentional; Naughty Dog left it intact across all regional releases.

Hot Coco

Access method — Hot Coco warp room slot: Hot Coco appears as a listed stage in Warp Room 4 but its entry portal is blocked until you trigger access through a secret route in Hog Ride (Warp Room 2). On the motorcycle section, approach the large dirt launch ramp near the stage’s midpoint and steer left as Crash becomes airborne off the ramp. Landing in the left-side alcove activates a warp orb leading to Hot Coco.

  • Hot Coco is a motorcycle-heavy bonus level with its own clear gem.

Death Routes

Several levels contain Death Route platforms — skull-marked checkpoints that only materialise if Crash has not died anywhere in that run up to that point. Stepping onto an active Death Route opens a branching section with additional crates and a gem reward.

LevelDeath Route Reward
Dino Might!Clear gem shard via alternate path
Deep TroubleGem + isolated crate cluster
High TimeGem shard through elevated route
Rings of PowerAdditional gem and bonus area

Dying at any point before reaching the skull platform makes it invisible and impassable. Restart the level from scratch to attempt again.

Colored Gems & Secret Paths

Colored gems are hidden within specific levels and unlock blocked passages in other stages. All five are required for 100% completion.

Gem ColorFound InUnlocks Route In
BlueTomb WaderSubmerged blue crate section
RedDeep TroubleRed gem path in separate level
GreenFlippersGreen route bonus section
YellowBug LiteYellow route in target level
PurpleHigh TimePurple platform route

To use a colored gem route: enter the linked level — the previously translucent gem platform will be solid. These routes typically hide dense crate clusters essential for full completion.

Power-Ups Unlocked Through Progression

Crash permanently gains new abilities as bosses are defeated and gem thresholds are crossed. These expand platforming options and open otherwise-unreachable secrets in backtracked levels.

Power-UpEffectKey Use
Fruit BazookaRanged projectile — targets distant enemies and cratesHits iron crates you cannot spin-break
Crash DashHold forward to sprintClears timed platforming sections faster
Double JumpPress X twice in midair for a second jumpReaches elevated death routes and colored gem paths
Super Body SlamHold Square mid-air to slam downBreaks steel crates from above
Death Tornado SpinHold Square to spin indefinitelyExtended invincibility frames across enemy clusters

The Double Jump is particularly valuable when revisiting earlier levels — several previously inaccessible crate stacks and gem routes require it.

Lives Farming

The game rewards chaining consecutive enemy bounces without touching the ground — a mechanic from the original trilogy.

Bounce chain payouts:

  • 1–4 bounces: Wumpa fruit clusters
  • 5+ bounces: 1-Up on each subsequent hit

Best farming locations:

  • Dino Might! — Raptor packs in the open-air chase section. Position Crash above a group and bounce rapidly; 8–10 consecutive hits yields 5–6 lives per run.
  • Cold Hard Crash — Bonus round near the exit contains stacked crates with enemies underneath. Approach from the left edge to align a clean chain.

Wumpa Fruit 99 trick: The opening stretch of Toad Village has a dense wumpa ring reachable in under 20 seconds. Collect it, exit to the warp room, re-enter, and repeat. 100 wumpa = 1 life, stackable indefinitely without risk.

Time Trial System

Time Trials unlock for every level after collecting all 25 Crystals. Three relic tiers exist, each requiring progressively faster runs.

RelicColourRequirement
SapphireBlueBeat the developer reference time
GoldGoldClear the Sapphire threshold by a significant margin
PlatinumPlatinumNear-flawless execution — frame-precise in some stages

Time Trial tips:

  • Crate collection is irrelevant — ignore all boxes unless directly in your path.
  • Nitro crates (green N markings) still kill on contact — memorise their positions.
  • Crash Dash is mandatory for Road Crash and other flat-ground stages.
  • On jet ski and motorcycle levels, begin steering inputs slightly before the apex of each turn, not at it.
  • The Slide-Jump exploit (see Glitches section) cuts meaningful time on foot-based levels.

Earning all 30 Platinum Relics unlocks a bonus ending cutscene but is not required for the standard 105% completion screen.

Beneficial Glitches & Exploits

Slide-Jump Extension

Input: Circle (slide), then immediately X during the slide animation.

Crash launches forward roughly 1.5× the distance of a standard jump. Used in every category of speedrun to skip transition platforming. Works on flat ground and while moving toward ledges.

Tornado Spin Hover

Begin the spin attack (Square) just before stepping off a platform edge. Crash drifts horizontally during the spin animation, extending hang time over gaps by approximately half a second. Useful for reaching crates across wide gaps before the Double Jump is unlocked.

Pterodactyl Edge Warp (Eggipus Rex Access)

Technically an in-engine out-of-bounds exploit — the right-edge level boundary in Dino Might! was not intended as an exit trigger. The pterodactyl carrying Crash across it reads as a warp condition. Naughty Dog shipped it in all regional pressings of the disc.

Crate Corner Clip

In levels with tightly packed crate walls, spin into the corner where two stacks meet and immediately press forward. Crash can clip slightly into the geometry on the correct frame window, occasionally collecting a crate without triggering adjacent nitros. Inconsistent but documented in PAL and NTSC builds.

Developer Easter Eggs

  • Idle title screen animation: Leave the title screen untouched for approximately 90 seconds. Uka Uka’s mask begins rotating on the logo art, and a secondary animation cycle plays — documented in the NTSC-U release.
  • Coco’s laptop placeholder: After defeating N. Tropy, walk Crash close to Coco’s terminal in the warp room hub during the post-boss cutscene trigger window. The laptop screen displays an unfinished texture reading “INSERT LOGO” — a leftover development asset that shipped in the final build.
  • Extended staff credits: Completing the game at 100% triggers a long credits sequence listing individual programmer and artist names omitted from the standard end-credits roll. The standard credits list only department names.
  • Naughty Dog references in tip cycling: The rotating loading-screen hint cards include a frame on first-boot of a new save file with the Naughty Dog paw print watermarked in the lower-right corner of the card art.

100% Completion Checklist

CategoryTotal Count
Crystals25
Clear Gems (all levels including secrets)32

All four categories must be completed to reach 105% and trigger the true ending cutscene, in which Uka Uka is imprisoned and an alternate closing dialogue between Aku Aku and the brothers plays before the credits.
