Pokemon FireRed Version Cheat Codes & Secrets
Complete collection of cheat codes, passwords, unlockables, and hidden secrets for Pokemon FireRed Version (2004).
GameShark & Action Replay Master Codes
Pokemon FireRed does not use button-sequence cheats — on original hardware, codes are entered via a GameShark or Action Replay device that sits between the cartridge and the GBA slot. The master code must be active for most other codes to function correctly.
| Code | Effect | Device |
|---|---|---|
000014D1 000A + 1003DAE6 0007 | Master Code (required) | GameShark v2/v3 |
72BC6DFB E9CA5465 + A47FB2DC 1AF3CA86 | Master Code (Action Replay v3) | Action Replay |
Always enter the master code first and leave it enabled as long as other codes are active.
Walk Through Walls
One of the most-used codes in FireRed, allowing movement through any solid tile including walls, trees, and water boundaries.
| Code | Effect | Device |
|---|---|---|
509197D3 542975F4 + 78DA95DF 44018CB4 | Walk through walls | GameShark v2 |
7881A409 E2026E0C + 8E883EFF 92E9660D | Walk through walls (AR v3) | Action Replay |
Caution: Walking off the map edge into invalid tile data can corrupt your save file. Save in a valid location before using this code.

Secret Unlockables
National Pokedex
After defeating the Elite Four and Champion, speak to Professor Oak. He upgrades your Pokedex to the National Dex (all 386 Pokemon) if you have seen at least 60 Pokemon in the Kanto regional Dex. This also unlocks migration features in later games that connect to FireRed.
Cerulean Cave (Mewtwo)
Cerulean Cave is blocked until you complete the main story AND help Celio on One Island obtain both gemstones (Ruby and Sapphire). After both conditions are met, the guard outside Cerulean Cave steps aside, letting you descend to Mewtwo at B1F.
Mystery Gift / Event Islands
FireRed supports Nintendo’s wireless Mystery Gift distribution. Connecting to a Mystery Gift station at official events or using a key item code unlocked:
- Mystic Ticket — Access to Navel Rock (Ho-Oh on the summit, Lugia in the depths)
- Aurora Ticket — Access to Birth Island (Deoxys puzzle)
- Old Sea Map — Access to Faraway Island (Mew; Japan only)
These events are long expired on official hardware. On emulator, the items can be injected directly via cheats:
| Code | Effect |
|---|---|
820257C4 0178 | Aurora Ticket in Bag Slot 1 |
820257C4 0176 | Mystic Ticket in Bag Slot 1 |
820257C4 0178 | Old Sea Map |
Post-Game Sevii Islands
Completing the main quest unlocks islands 4–7 of the Sevii Islands chain, which contain Pokemon not native to Kanto (Vulpix, Slowpoke, Magmar evolutions, etc.) and the item retrieval quest for Celio.
Beneficial Glitches & Exploits
Poke Doll Skip (Ghost Tower)
In Pokemon Tower (Lavender Town), the Marowak ghost that blocks the staircase can be bypassed with a Poke Doll instead of the Silph Scope. Because the Poke Doll “escapes” from any battle including scripted ghost fights, using it against the Marowak ends the encounter and lets you proceed. The Tower remains clear afterward, though the script that normally reveals the ghost as Marowak is never triggered — minor consequence only.
Rare Candy Clone via Item Duplication
FireRed lacks the Missingno exploit from Red/Blue, but the PC Box cloning glitch from Emerald also does not apply here. However, the Timer Ball + Switch mid-battle duplication trick works on certain emulator versions: place the item to duplicate in the sixth bag slot, initiate a wild battle, use the item, then reset. On some ROM revisions the item counter desynchronizes, leaving extra copies. Results are inconsistent and version-dependent.
Experience Underflow (Level 1 EXP Exploit)
If a Level 1 Pokemon with 0 EXP in the “Medium Slow” growth group gains negative EXP through a specific calculation overflow (triggered in FireRed by gaining EXP while already at 0 against a Level 1 foe with EXP Share), it can jump to Level 100. This is a carry-over from Generation I math and applies to Medium Slow Pokemon (Slowpoke, Bulbasaur, etc.). Extremely difficult to trigger legitimately; consistent on emulator with frame-accurate timing.
Safari Zone Step Counter Freeze
Saving and resetting inside the Safari Zone resets your step counter to 500 without consuming a new entry fee. This allows unlimited time to hunt for Chansey, Tauros, Scyther, and Pinsir without additional game-corner coins.
Developer Easter Eggs
Game Freak Office (Celadon City)
On the top floor of the Celadon City Condominiums, a small office houses several Game Freak employees. Talking to the developer in the back-right corner after obtaining the diploma (completing the National Pokedex) triggers a unique acknowledgement message. The Game Director NPC gives you a special diploma certificate when you register all 386 Pokemon — one for the Kanto Dex and one for the National Dex, displayed in your Trainer Card.
Trainer Hill (JP Version Only)
The Japanese version of FireRed includes Trainer Hill, a bonus facility accessible by wireless adapter. Western releases removed this entirely, though data remnants exist in the ROM. Hackers have re-enabled the map via cheat codes, revealing a fully functional four-floor battle gauntlet with unique Trainer dialogue referencing the original Red/Green development team.
Original Red/Blue Music Callbacks
The audio engine in FireRed contains the original 1996 Game Boy sound channel data as reference material embedded in unused ROM space. This is not accessible in normal gameplay but is present in the ROM and can be ripped by data miners — a deliberate preservation choice by the audio team.
Lostelle’s Jigglypuff
On Berry Forest (Three Island), Lostelle is found cowering from a Hypno. After rescuing her, examining the area where the Hypno stood triggers a hidden invisible encounter with a Jigglypuff that knows Sing — a small scripted secret not mentioned anywhere in-game and absent from official guides, likely placed by a developer referencing Jigglypuff’s role in the anime.
